Google has released Nexus S’ first over-the-air update. The 1.9MB GRH78 ups the Android OS to 2.3.1 and comes with a new version of Google Maps along with some bug fixes. If you haven’t received the update yet, you can trick the phone to receive the update notification by dialing *#*#checkin#*#*.
The price of the 5-inch Android-powered tablet Dell Streak in the US has just been seriously reduced. Froyo-loving Android-junkies can now purchase it without signing any contracts for as low as $400.
This is $180 lower than what Dell USA were previously charging for the 16GB version of the SIM-free Dell Streak. The bad news is shipping will take quite some time: the cheap Streaks won’t be knocking on your door until 11 January 2011.
Interestingly, the 16GB version of the thing will arrive with the Android 1.6 a.k.a. Donut on board, but getting rid of it is as easy as pie thanks to the available update to update to Android 2.2 a.k.a. Froyo which comes Over-the-Air.
As for the 500-dollar 32GB version of the 5-incher, it will be serving Froyo out of the box.
As our review revealed, the Dell Streak isn’t the ultimate Android-driven tablet or smartphone out there, but with the Froyo update that followed shortly after that and the new, lower price it seems like a much better deal.
Apple had good intentions when it released iTunes 10.1.1 yesterday, an update to iTunes 10.1 that was meant to correct some minor bugs.
But downloading the update via iTunes automatic software update created more problems for some. Last night many reported problems such as being unable to open iTunes altogether, losing their library, and crashes.
A discussion over at Apple’s support forum shows that Apple is aware of the problem. An Apple engineer by the screnname “Roy B” asked members to send in system details last night.
For now, the most common alternative PCMag also tried is to download the 90.5 MB update directly through Apple’s Web site rather than the automatic software updater.
According to Apple’s description of the software update, version 10.1.1 fixes several bugs: an issue where some music videos may not play on Macs equipped with Nvidia GeForce 9400 or 9600 graphics; an issue where iTunes may unexpectedly quit when deleting a playlist showing the iTunes Sidebar; unexpectedly quitting when connecting an iPod to a Mac running a PowerPC processor; and problems with music videos not syncing to your Apple mobile device.
Apple released iTunes 10.1 in November with minor additions, like the ability to sync and stream content to Apple TV, and some stability and performance improvements. Since then Apple added the long-sought after Beatles library and extended select song previews to 90 seconds.
Apple was unavailable to comment at press time.
Apple has released version 3.5 of its Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update, which includes support for several new cameras including Nikon’s D700 and Coolpix P7000.
Other cameras included in the update are:
- Canon PowerShot G12
- Leica D-Lux 5
- Leica D-Lux 7
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2
Users can find a running list of compatible cameras, here.
If you do not see Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.5 in Software Update, be sure you are running Mac OS X 10.6.5. If you have a lesser version of Mac OS X installed, the update will not appear. To remedy the situation, update to Mac OS X 10.6.5 using Software Update, or download it manually from Apple.com. Mac OS X 10.6.5 is highly recommended for any users of Aperture 3.
The white iPhone 4 might not be available until August, according to a customer who visited a Best Buy to pre order an iPhone 4.
The white iPhone 4 has been causing quite a bit of controversy since yesterday when the pre order launched for the iPhone 4. Nobody knew that the white iPhone 4 was not going to be available prior to yesterday. The new broke Monday night just prior to midnight and official launch of the iPhone 4 pre order. And then Apple confirmed it again when they launched their iPhone 4 online store where it stated that the iPhone 4 would not be available for pre order.
White iPhone 4 Not Available Until August
Someone posted a comment here at Social Media SEO stating that he just left a Best Buy store after pre ordering his iPhone 4, and he said that the rep at Best Buy said the white iPhone 4 will be available until August.
And I just realized that this report isn’t really any different than the previously reported time frame of “later this summer”. August is definitely later this summer!
So does anyone have any additional info regarding the white iPhone 4?
